Since 1935, the Service League of Cherokee County has helped meet the everyday needs of local children. The Service League receives requests from school counselors, social workers, teachers, and individuals to help children with housing, utility, vision, dental, and medical needs. We also meet other basic needs including clothing, school supplies, and more. At Christmas, we provide Christmas gifts for multiple children from every school in Cherokee County.
The active members of the Service League, “greenshirts” as we are affectionately called, work all year to plan, launch, and execute fundraisers in order to meet these needs. Our President Elect serves as our caseworker, and she is responsible for receiving these requests and meeting the needs asked of us. With roughly 62,000 children under eighteen in Cherokee County, our inbox is always active.
Some children we help are from families who are financially struggling. Other children we support are from families where they may have experienced a personal tragedy such as the loss of their parent(s), the loss of their home, or unexpected circumstances causing a need in the child’s life.
In addition to individual children’s needs, we support children’s futures through scholarships.
Through the years, the Service League has earned a reputation of supporting other child focused nonprofit organizations through volunteerism and grants. Our heritage of helping children in our community extends deep into our community.
