Members of the Service League commit to a minimum of 50 hours of service each year when they pledge their ten year commitment to the children through the Service League of Cherokee County. This decade of volunteering is the initial investment we make into a child’s life. We commit to being accessible not only to meeting the requests, but physically working to raising the money needed.
Our fundraisers are the principal source of our funds. Riverfest Arts and Crafts Festival, the Reindeer Run for the Children, our Annual Gala & Benefit, and the Golfing FORE! the Children golf tournament, are our four major fundraising events. At each of these events, our generous sponsors donate products to offset the cost of the events as well contributing financially. Both of these types of contributions allow us to raise more money to impact the children of Cherokee County. Through their giving, our sponsors become a vital part of a child’s story.
We also have our own cookbook, Gatherings and Traditions, which is sold at Riverfest. Profits from the cookbook help children in our community.
Riverfest, our annual arts and crafts show, is our flagship fundraiser. With an average of 25,000 patrons through our gates, it has become a favorite fall pastime for locals and travelers alike. Riverfest takes place the last full weekend in September. Our juried show features 150 arts and crafts vendors, a diverse concessions area, a children’s activity area, and live entertainment. Riverfest sponsors are essential to our success. Our higher level sponsors get to be a part of our show as well. Without our sponsors, Riverfest would not have the impact it does on the children who reap the benefits.
In December, we have our Reindeer Run for the Children fundraiser. Our Reindeer Run for the Children is a Peachtree Road Race qualifier. Even non-runners can participate as a Santa’s Helper (ghost runner). Our Run sponsors have the opportunity to be a part of the event. Some sponsors set up tents to give gifts to the run participants, while others choose to participate by donating financially. All of our sponsors are a part of making sure children in Cherokee county have gifts at Christmas.
Early June brings our Golfing FORE! the Children Golf Tournament. Foursomes participate in a scramble format with a shotgun start. Fundraising comes through the golfers’ registration fees, but we also give golfers the opportunity to “buy” their way to a better game through purchasing mulligans, string, red bombers, and throws. A raffle adds to the fun and fundraising. Once again, our sponsors are vital to the success of this event. Local businesses donate items and gift certificates to our raffle baskets/packages, sponsor holes, and sponsor the overall event.
Individuals can donate through Facebook fundraisers on their birthday by supporting the Service League of Cherokee County, or donating directly on our website. No donation is too small. All donations (big or small) make a difference in the life of a child.
